Hominum Daemons are one of the most common threats in the supernatural world—living weapons created through Gedeon’s cruel transformation of human beings into monstrous servants. As foot soldiers in the ongoing conflict between dimensions, these entities embody the terrible cost of Gedeon’s invasion and the enduring consequences of his magic.
Distinguished by their unsettling appearance—humanoid in basic structure but horrifically altered—Hominum Daemons stand well over six feet tall with pale gray skin stretched taut over distorted musculature. Their most distinctive and lethal feature is their arm structure, which terminates not in hands but in long, razor-sharp black blades capable of slicing through both flesh and armor with terrifying ease.
The most disturbing aspect of their appearance is the horizontal deformation at the back of their skulls—a mutation that creates an unnatural, hammer-like extension of the cranium. This distinctive head shape makes them immediately identifiable even from a distance, serving as a visual warning of their presence to experienced Ascendants.
Their golden burning eyes—a universal trait among all daemon species—glow with an unnatural light that becomes more intense during combat or periods of agitation. These eyes serve as both sensory organs and indicators of their supernatural nature, the golden hue marking them as creatures not belonging to Earth’s natural order.
In combat, Hominum Daemons rely primarily on their blade-arms, using slashing attacks delivered with considerable force but minimal strategy. Their fighting approach emphasises overwhelming numbers rather than tactical sophistication, charging directly at enemies with little regard for personal safety or coordinated movement.
Despite their fearsome appearance, Hominum Daemons demonstrate notably limited intelligence compared to other daemon species. They follow basic commands when controlled but become significantly more chaotic and disorganised when this control is removed. This intellectual limitation makes them predictable opponents for trained Ascendants who understand their attack patterns.
The name “Hominum” references their origin as transformed humans, a tragic reminder that these creatures were once people before Gedeon’s magic corrupted them into weapons. This knowledge adds a layer of horror to encounters with these daemons, particularly for those who understand that no method exists to reverse this transformation and restore their original nature.
Hominum Daemons are easily killed by weapons forged from titum—the special metal cooled in the Spring of Life that disrupts the magical energy sustaining their unnatural existence—and magic. When struck by such weapons, they dissolve into clouds of black smoke, leaving no physical remains behind.
As beings existing between dimensions, Hominum Daemons cannot enter Castellum grounds without being specifically summoned by someone inside—a limitation that provides Ascendants with safe havens from which to operate. This restriction, alongside their vulnerability to titum weapons, represents one of the few advantages defenders have against their otherwise overwhelming numbers.
Despite being among the least powerful daemon species individually, Hominum Daemons remain one of the most significant threats due to their sheer numbers and the ease with which they can be controlled by those who possess the necessary artefacts. This combination of abundance and manipulability makes them particularly dangerous tools in the hands of those seeking to destabilise the fragile balance between worlds.
