Character Profile – The Lost Artefacts: Aurelia Blackfriars

Aurelia Blackfriars (formerly Eromor) was one of the most exceptional Ascendants of her generation, a quick, nimble warrior who was both craft on and off the sword. As a woman who defied Ascendant law by falling in love with a Sorcerer, her choices ultimately reshaped her life and the future of the supernatural world.

Distinguished by her striking dark hair and eyes, Aurelia moved with the fluid grace that characterised the finest Ascendant fighters. Her combat style combined technical precision with creative adaptability, making her formidable against even the most dangerous daemon threats. The sword she wielded—later inherited by her son Lincoln—became an extension of her own body during battle.

Born into a respected Ascendant lineage, Aurelia received traditional training from an early age. She quickly distinguished herself through both her combat abilities and her unusual interest in the theoretical aspects of the supernatural world—an intellectual curiosity that set her apart from many of her peers who focused exclusively on battlefield techniques.

Aurelia’s assignment to work with the Society brought her into contact with Henry Blackfriars, a brilliant young Sorcerer whose academic interests complemented her practical expertise. Their professional collaboration gradually evolved into a deeper connection, leading to a forbidden romance that crossed the traditional boundaries between their communities.

Their relationship, kept secret from all but their closest friends, resulted in the birth of their son Lincoln—a child whose mixed heritage presented both unique potential and significant danger in a world where such combinations were unprecedented. Aurelia devoted herself to protecting their son while continuing her work with the Society, balancing maternal love with her commitment to battling supernatural threats.

As a mother, Aurelia embodied protective ferocity tempered with nurturing warmth. Her journal entries reveal a woman determined to raise a child who would understand both his unique heritage and the responsibility that came with it—someone who would navigate the complexities of the supernatural world with both strength and compassion.

When tragedy struck their family, Aurelia’s response revealed the ultimate measure of her character. Faced with impossible circumstances, she made the most profound sacrifice possible—trading her own life force to restore her son’s. This act of maternal devotion transcended the natural laws of life and death, channeling the power of the Spring of Life in ways that defied conventional understanding.

The research she conducted alongside her husband into artefacts and ancient threats contributed significantly to the Society’s understanding of daemonic vulnerabilities. Her tactical insights, combined with Henry’s theoretical knowledge, created breakthroughs that saved countless lives during their time with the organisation.
