Character Profile – The Lost Artefacts: Henry Blackfriars

Henry Blackfriars embodied the combination of scholarly wisdom and practical courage that defined the finest Sorcerers of his generation. As a man of remarkable magical talent and unwavering principle, Henry’s decisions would ultimately reshape the supernatural world in ways that continue to reverberate years after his death.

Distinguished by his dark hair and eyes (features he would later pass to his son Lincoln), Henry carried himself with the quiet confidence of someone whose power stemmed from knowledge rather than intimidation.

From an early age, Henry demonstrated exceptional aptitude for magical theory, developing a particular interest in ancient artefacts and their historical significance. This academic focus led him to join the Society, a secretive organisation dedicated to researching solutions to the daemon threat that had plagued humanity since Gedeon’s original invasion.

It was in the Society that Henry brought his closest friend, Sorcerer Eligh Mortem. The two grew up together, studying arcane arts and developing their considerable abilities side by side. This brotherhood would later become the foundation of trust that allowed Henry to make his most difficult decisions with the assurance that his wishes would be honoured.

Henry’s life took an unexpected turn when he fell in love with Aurelia, an Ascendant warrior whose combat prowess was matched by her intellectual curiosity. Their relationship defied the traditional boundaries between their communities—a forbidden connection that forced them to keep their son Lincoln’s existence secret from all but their closest confidants.

As a father, Henry was devoted and protective, though frequently pulled between family responsibilities and his work with the Society. The journals and research notes he left behind reveal a man deeply concerned with creating a safer world for his son to inherit—a motivation that drove his increasingly urgent investigations into artefacts and ancient threats.

Henry’s greatest professional achievement came when he uncovered plans within the Society to resurrect Gedeon using the lost artefacts. This discovery set him on a collision course with traitors within his own organisation, forcing him to make increasingly difficult choices to prevent catastrophe.

His final and most consequential decision—to sacrifice himself closing the portal to the Daemon Dimension—reflected both his pragmatic assessment of necessity and his fundamental belief that some principles transcend personal survival. This act, referred to as “The Severing,” permanently altered the balance of power between Ascendants and Sorcerers while preventing Gedeon’s return.
