Character Profile – The Lost Artefacts: Hyde Aldefos

Hyde Aldefos is the younger son of Head Legionnaire Marshall Aldefos and serves as temporary co-leader of the New York Castellum alongside his older brother, Montgomery. In stark contrast to his father and brother’s rigid demeanor, Hyde presents himself as easygoing and casual, often appearing disinterested in the serious responsibilities of Ascendant life.

Physically, Hyde is described as slightly pudgier than the average Ascendant, though this belies his surprising strength and combat abilities. He is rarely seen without his feline Phoenine, Hypno, who mirrors his seemingly lazy disposition. Together, they form an unexpectedly effective team despite their relaxed approach.

While Monty follows rules to the letter, Hyde approaches life with a notable irreverence and wit. He frequently makes jokes at inappropriate times and maintains a sarcastic commentary on events unfolding around him. This behaviour often irritates his brother, though Hyde believes it serves as valuable comic relief during tense situations.

Despite his apparent lackadaisical attitude, Hyde possesses keen observational skills and surprising insight. He notices details others miss and occasionally offers unexpected wisdom that catches his companions off guard. His laid-back facade conceals a sharp mind that understands both people and politics better than most would give him credit for.

Hyde’s relationship with his father appears distant, and unlike Monty, he seems to have little interest in seeking Marshall Aldefos’s approval. He has rejected the rigid training and expectations placed upon him, choosing instead to forge his own identity. This rejection of family legacy, however, doesn’t extend to his brother, for whom he maintains genuine affection despite their constant bickering.

In combat, Hyde relies on a battle axe and demonstrates considerable physical strength when needed. His fighting style, like his personality, appears casual but proves surprisingly effective. He forms easy friendships with those around him, particularly connecting with younger Ascendants through his approachable nature and gaming interests.
