Character Profile – The Lost Artefacts: Gedeon

Gedeon stands as the most feared figure in supernatural history—an entity whose actions thousands of years ago continue to shape the conflict between dimensions in the present day. As the original Rogue Sorcerer who created the rift between worlds, Gedeon’s legacy is written in the blood of countless victims across millennia.

Distinguished by his unprecedented magical abilities, historical accounts describe Gedeon as possessing power beyond any Sorcerer before or since. His unique capacity to channel two artefacts simultaneously—the chain and the ring—granted him capabilities that defied the natural laws governing magical practice.

Before his descent into darkness, legends suggest Gedeon was once a noble and principled leader. Ancient texts reference his early contributions to magical understanding and his apparent desire to use his considerable gifts to benefit his world. This period of benevolent leadership makes his subsequent transformation all the more tragic and cautionary.

The circumstances that corrupted Gedeon remain subjects of scholarly debate, though most accounts agree that his discovery of the chain marked a turning point. As he began to channel its immense power, subtle changes in his personality emerged—growing ambition, increasing isolation, and a gradual belief in his own superiority over those he once served.

Gedeon’s decision to create a portal between dimensions represented the culmination of his transformation from protector to conqueror. Using his unprecedented magical abilities, he tore a hole in the fabric separating dimensions, creating a rift that allowed him to enter Earth with conquest in mind.

The devastation Gedeon unleashed upon Earth was apocalyptic in scale. Historical records describe the sky burning and the earth trembling as daemonic forces poured through the rift, overwhelming humanity’s defences. Various cultural traditions preserved memories of this cataclysm through religious narratives and geological catastrophe stories, though the supernatural elements were gradually removed through retellings.

Gedeon’s most terrible legacy was the transformation of his own world’s inhabitants into the daemons that continue to threaten Earth. Using his immense magical power, he mutated humans and animals alike into monstrous forms that served his will—creating an army of horrors that retained just enough of their original nature to make their new existence particularly tragic.

In his final moments, facing defeat at the hands of the newly empowered original Ascendants, Gedeon demonstrated one last act of terrible foresight. Storing a portion of his life essence in his ring, he created the possibility of eventual resurrection—a final contingency plan that ensured his threat would never be truly eliminated, only temporarily contained.

Thousands of years after his defeat, Gedeon’s name remains synonymous with the darkest potential of unchecked magical power—a cautionary tale taught to both young Sorcerers and Ascendants about the corruption that can result when ability outpaces wisdom. Yet beyond this cautionary function, the continued efforts to resurrect him suggest that some view his terrible power not as warning but as opportunity—a perspective that ensures the danger he represents remains ever-present.
