Character Profile – The Lost Artefacts: Becca Riverun

Becca embodies resilience forged through a decade of survival in the most brutal environment of Eden. As a water nymph and former member of Lady Sequoia’s personal guard, she carries herself with the controlled precision of a trained warrior whose every movement has been honed by years of life-or-death combat.

Becca’s physical appearance reflects her pragmatic approach to survival—nothing unnecessary, everything functional. Her fighting style mirrors this efficiency, having evolved from formal guard training into something more visceral and instinctive through years of Arena battles.

Before Methuselah’s rise to power, Becca served alongside her husband Kane in the Queen’s Guard, a position of honour that reflected both her combat abilities and her unwavering loyalty to Lady Sequoia. This period represented a time of purpose and principled service, with Becca and Kane building a life together while protecting Eden’s beloved ruler.

Following Lady Sequoia’s assassination and the failed rebellion against Methuselah, Becca’s life took a tragic turn. Separated from Kane and told he had been executed, she was sentenced to the Arena—Methuselah’s gladiatorial prison where captives battle deadly creatures for the entertainment of crowds. This punishment was designed not just to end her life but to strip her of dignity in the process.

Against all expectations, Becca survived her first Arena battle, and then another, and another. What began as a death sentence evolved into a decade-long imprisonment that transformed her from a disciplined guard into something far more dangerous—a combatant who had faced death so many times that fear no longer registered. Her fighting techniques grew increasingly lethal as she adapted to the Arena’s brutal requirements.

The psychological toll of believing her husband dead while fighting daily for survival hardened Becca in ways that would be difficult to reverse. She developed the emotional detachment necessary to kill without hesitation while maintaining just enough humanity to avoid becoming the monster Methuselah’s system was designed to create.

Throughout her years in captivity, Becca never fully surrendered to despair. Behind her guarded exterior remained a flickering hope that someday Methuselah’s rule would end and Eden would return to the principles that once made it great. This quiet resistance manifested in small acts of kindness toward newer Arena prisoners and occasional defiance when she believed she could get away with it.
