Eligh Mortem stands among the most powerful Sorcerers of his generation, though few in the current magical community know he still lives.
In his youth, Eligh formed an unbreakable friendship with Henry Blackfriars that would shape the course of both their lives. The two grew up together, studying the arcane arts and developing their considerable magical abilities side by side. This friendship extended to include Henry’s wife Aurelia despite the taboo nature of relationships between Sorcerers and Ascendants at that time.
Eligh’s primary magical focus manifests through his staff—a powerful artefact created from a lightning-struck tree with exceptional conductivity for electrical magical energy. His fighting style emphasises distance combat, using powerful lightning-based spells and protective barriers to control battlefields rather than engaging directly. Years of study have given him an encyclopedic knowledge of magical theory and history that few can match.
A member of the secretive organisation known as the Society, Eligh worked alongside other prominent magical figures researching artefacts and seeking permanent solutions to the daemon threat. His contribution to magical research and understanding of ancient texts made him a respected voice among both Ascendants and Sorcerers.
Deeply affected by the loss of his closest friends, Eligh made difficult choices that would haunt him for years to come. For over a decade, he lived in self-imposed exile, maintaining the appearance of death while secretly watching over the magical world from afar. During this period, he converted his home into a sanctuary filled with magical artefacts and texts—a testament to his continuing dedication to magical knowledge despite his withdrawal from society.
Though he presents a serious and sometimes stern exterior, those who know Eligh well understand his dry sense of humour and profound capacity for compassion. Despite years of isolation, Eligh remains fundamentally a mentor at heart, finding purpose in passing knowledge to the next generation.
Behind his carefully maintained composure lies a man who has sacrificed his own place in the world to protect others, carrying the weight of impossible choices made in impossible circumstances—a burden he bears silently but never forgets.
