Character Profile – The Lost Artefacts: Ajax ‘AJ’ Thames

Ajax Thames, almost universally known as “AJ,” is a remarkably talented thirteen-year-old with skills that belie his young age. Born into a family with deep connections to a hidden world of supernatural abilities, AJ carries on his parents’ legacy despite having lost them when he was too young to form clear memories of them.

With the same striking jade-green eyes and black hair as his older sister El, AJ has grown up in the protective but demanding environment of the Castellum, a special facility where those with extraordinary abilities train and live. Despite being the youngest resident, he carries himself with a confidence that wavers between teenage bravado and genuine capability.

AJ’s weapon of choice is the bow and arrow, a discipline in which he’s developed extraordinary proficiency. His accuracy is exceptional, allowing him to hit targets from impressive distances with minimal effort. This skill, combined with his natural agility, makes him far more capable in combat situations than most would expect from someone his age.

His constant companion is Odysseus, a special type of magical dog called a Phoenine that chose AJ as its owner. The bond between boy and dog goes beyond typical pet ownership—Odysseus serves as both friend and battle partner, responding to AJ’s commands with a supernatural understanding.

Though he sometimes chafes at being treated like a child, particularly by his overprotective sister, AJ has completed most of his formal training trials and earned the right to assist on patrols. He takes tremendous pride in these accomplishments, often reminding others of his capabilities when they underestimate him.

Despite the serious nature of his upbringing and training, AJ maintains the enthusiasm and curiosity typical of his age. He gets excited about new experiences, asks questions incessantly, and occasionally acts impulsively. His personality provides a refreshing counterbalance to the more serious demeanors of the older Ascendants around him.
