I asked an AI to write me a fantasy short story

The wind howled through the mountains as the small group of travelers trudged through the snowy pass. Their breaths came out in white puffs, and their feet crunched through the frozen ground. At the head of the group was a tall, dark-haired man named Aric. He held a sword at the ready, scanning the rocky terrain for any sign of danger.

“Are we almost there?” one of the travelers, a young woman named Lyra, asked.

“We should be close,” Aric replied. “The dragon’s lair is said to be on the other side of this pass.”

Lyra’s eyes widened in fear. “A dragon? Are you sure we should be doing this?”

Aric nodded. “It’s the only way to get the treasure. And with the dragon’s hoard, we’ll be able to save our village from starvation.”

The group pressed on, their eyes scanning the rocky cliffs for any sign of the dragon. After a few hours, they finally saw it. The creature was huge, with scales as black as night and eyes that glowed red in the darkness. It let out a deafening roar as it lunged at the group.

Aric stepped forward, brandishing his sword. “Stand back!” he shouted to the others. “I’ll take care of this.”

The dragon breathed a stream of fire at Aric, but he deftly dodged it and swung his sword at the creature’s head. The dragon let out a pained roar as the sword bit deep into its flesh. But it was not defeated yet, and it lunged at Aric again, its jaws open wide.

Aric jumped to the side, and the dragon missed him by inches. He swung his sword again, and this time, it struck true. The dragon let out a final roar and fell to the ground, dead.

The group approached the dragon’s lair and found the treasure inside, glittering gold and jewels. They took what they could carry and set off back to their village.

“We did it,” Lyra said, her eyes shining with excitement. “We saved our village.”

“Yes,” Aric said, “but remember, there will always be more dragons to slay. We must always be ready for the next challenge.”

The group set off into the sunset, ready for whatever lay ahead.

My take away

Okay, so obviously the writing isn’t overly sophisticated, and the character interaction are quite basic, however, taking into account that this machine built this piece of work in a matter of seconds, and of course it is a a chatbot, in its infancy, its not too bad. Besides, there’s a dragon, who doesn’t love a dragon?
